It is with great pride that we recognize Comfort, RN on 2 East, as our Associate of the Month Great Catch Award recipient.
Comfort was nominated for her exceptional clinical judgment and unwavering advocacy in caring for a patient admitted for evaluation of a possible stroke.
Although the patient’s symptoms had resolved and a head CT was negative, leading to plans for discharge, Comfort’s thorough assessment raised concerns that something more was going on. Trusting her instincts and clinical expertise, she spoke up and advocated for additional evaluation.
She requested that the stroke workup be completed, including an MRI of the brain and an echocardiogram, and the physician agreed to proceed.
Her advocacy proved critical. The MRI revealed an ischemic stroke, and the echocardiogram identified a left ventricular thrombus. Because of her actions, the patient was promptly started on a Heparin drip, preventing potentially devastating complications.
This was a significant catch. Comfort’s vigilance, critical thinking, and willingness to speak up ensured that a serious condition was not missed and that the patient received timely, life-saving care.
For her decisive action, strong advocacy, and commitment to doing what is right for her patient, we are proud to recognize her with the Associate of the Month Great Catch Award.
Thank you, Comfort!
